Make with Magnets: The boys in Infants have found it easier to remember tricky words after they have traced them in paint bags, put them together using magnets and written them down. We spell these words as sounding out does not work!
Sight Word Stacking: This is a new game we began this week. Cups with words written on them are placed in centre of the group, the boys take turns choosing words they can read and the first to make a tower of ten sight words wins.
BANG!: This game is great for practising tricky words. Flashcards are placed in a shoebox, children take turns drawing a card from the box, if they can read the word they keep it, if not they replace in the box. Whoever collects the most cards wins the game. Beware of the BANG cards though. If you draw one, you have to put back all of the cards you have collected.
Sight Word Bingo, Snap and Go Fish are also brilliant games for developing recognition of tricky words.
