As we were working on making patterns in Maths last week we decided to paint patterns as part of our Art. We looked at the paintings of the artist Kandinksy and the way he used colour and patterns in his work. Each boy was given a thick and a thin paintbrush and worked on creating their own interesting pattern paintings! Take a look!
In Science this week we have been exploring the effect of heating and cooling on water and other materials. We decided to find out what would happen when we heated chocolate by making some yummy Rice Krispie Buns!
First of all we washed our hands and gathered our ingredients and equipment. We needed Rice Krispies, cooking chocolate, bun cases, a big bowl and a saucepan.
We then broke the chocolate up into small pieces and put it into a big bowl so it would melt quickly when heated.
Ms. Sheehan and Deirdre then heated the chocolate over a saucepan of hot water. We helped stir the chocolate to make sure it was all melted.
We then took turns stirring the Rice Krispies into the melted chocolate. We each got a little spoon to taste the mixture before it set!
We spooned the mixture into bun cases and left them to set! We really enjoyed making our buns but we preferred eating them after lunch!
This week the boys have been working on and learning all about the number five. We have really enjoyed learning the song 'Five Little Monkeys' and making sets of 5 with counters, crayons, balls and lollipop sticks! The boys have found the number five all around the classroom and counted sets of five at our counting corner!
