Rice Crispie Buns

4/2/2015

On Friday, for Golden Time, we had an extra special treat. We brought chocolate and Rice Crispies down to the parents room to make something extra yummy!

First, we warmed the chocolate in a mixing book, until it was completely melted.

Then we added some Rice Crispies to the melted chocolate.

Everyone in the class had a turn in mixing the chocolate and Rice Crispies together - this was the best part!

We put the mixture into bun cases, and put them into the freezer to cool down for ten minutes.

You can check out how we made our Rice Crispie buns in the pictures below, but unfortunately we have no pictures of the buns at the end - we had eat them so fast!! :) :)

People Working in Our Community

Ms. Maher's and Ms. Byrne's class was very fortunate recently to have a special visitor come in to they school to talk all about the work and the contribution that they make to the community. Jakub's dad, Garda Declan Dunne came in to the school in his Garda uniform to tell the boys all about his job, and the work that he does.

We were very excited about this visit, and brainstormed lots of questions the week before to ask him on the day. One of the most important things that we learned about the Garda is that they are there to help us.

We got to see Garda Dunne's badge, his notebooks where he writes down everything for his job, his walkie talkie - and even his handcuffs, which he put on Eva to give her a bit of a scare! :)

Thanks for coming in to talk to us Garda Dunne, we really appreciated it. :)

Thanks so much to everyone who sent in empty toilet rolls recently - we got so many of them, it was great! :)

In case you were wondering what we needed them for, have a look at some of the pictures below.

We love working with paint in our class, and we especially love getting to work with the paint while doing printing. We added some paint into our paint pallets, put the empty toilet rolls in on top, and printed away to our heart's content - look how colourful they turned out! :)

Marshmallow Polar Bears

We’ve been printing again!!

This time, instead of sponges, we used something a little different – marshmallows!! We looked at different animals that we would see in winter, and we talked about different animals that live where it’s very cold all year round, and we decided to use marshmallows to create our very own polar bears. We put white paint on our marshmallows, and printed out a face, some ears and a neck. We then used a paint brush to add in our little details like eyes, nose and mouth.

The best part of class was eating marshmallows afterwards – without paint on them of course! :)

We are currently busy practicing our lines and songs for our Christmas play – The Nativity Story. We hope that everyone will come to see it. We’ve been trying to make the hall as festive looking as possible. Check out our lovely Christmas Trees which we printed recently. We put paint on sponges, and printed the sponges onto white card. We had lots of fun making these with the sponges, but not as much fun tidying up afterwards – there was paint all over our hands!! :)

A big thank you also to the boys from Mr. Healy’s class who came down to help us with our printed trees – Eoin, Adam, Michael and Erlends – thanks boys! :)

We have been busy getting ready for Winter, and of course, Christmas in our classroom.

We have been practicing really hard for our Christmas play, and we decided to really get in the Christmas spirit in our art classes.

We looked at some pictures of winter trees, and decided to try our hand at painting our own.

Such a fantastic job was done, and everyone’s tree looks great – all unique and all wonderful :)

We have been very lucky to have had a rugby coach in with our class over the past few weeks.

Graham, who is from Newbridge, has been coming in coaching the boys, and playing warm up games with them every Monday.

The boys have been having so much fun, and really look forward to each practice.

Check out some of our pictures showing us at practice – Leinster team, here we come! :)

We are so lucky that Ms. Sheehan and Finola are able to come in to us every Monday and Tuesday to help us with our Ready Set Go Maths. We have been having so much fun with our mental maths and counting games, and using the materials which we have in the classroom to help us learn lots of different things in maths.

Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about pattern.
We learned how to copy a pattern, how to continue on a pattern after it has been started for us, and we even came up with some patterns of our own.

Have a look at some of the wonderful patterns that have been created over the past while ! :)

Colour MIxing

We love getting to use our paints in our class, and recently we decided to do a little bit of colour mixing.

We used paper plates, that were divided into six sections, and we used these to make our colour wheels.

We learned all about the primary colours - red, yellow and blue.
Picture
We put these on our plates, skipping leaving a gap between each colour, before we mixed our primary colours to make our secondary colours. Check out the different colours we can get when we mix the three original colours.

The following week, we decided that every group was going to concentrate on just one colour, and see if they could make different shades or tints of that colour. We found out that by adding white to a colour it went lighter, and by adding black to a colour it went darker. We were really happy with our work and we have made a big colour mixing display in the main hall for everyone to check out! :)

Food Dudes! :)

Well done to all the boys and their parents for the fantastic effort put into the Food Dudes over the last couple of weeks.

Don't forget to return your diary to school to earn a prize. It was fantastic to hear that so many boys tried new fruit and vegetables even if they weren't sure they would like them!

Now it's over to you to keep up the healthy eating both at home and in school. There are some rewards for continuing to bring and eat fruit and vegetables in school but we are hoping that you will do so because you know these foods are healthy and you like to eat them!
We have chosen Wednesday as our designated Food Dudes Day and if boys bring BOTH fruit AND Vegetables to school to eat on Wednesdays there will be a little reward from now until Christmas.

Well Done on the great effort so far!
